Adventures in the Life of Lo

This is the blog of my life as I go through nursing school and learn how to be a grown up. Whoever said growing up was easy...can suck it.

life lately:
-i started my summer semester. woo hoo. pause not. its going to be insanely difficult to sit through lecture and to spend my friday (7am-3pm) in clinical while everyone is out catching some rays. this picture is my first day of the semester (well, in the car on the way to my first day of the semester) . my mother demanded a “first day of school” picture. this is the best i could do. she would like me to be 5 years old forever.
-i went to an icubs game with some fun people last weekend. there were fireworks after and it was a great night and the weather was gorgeous.
-i have found a sudden interest in cooking. i have become addicted to finding new recipes on pinterest to try. i have actually made quite a few things now. i made homemade chocolate chip cookies last week…and they were actually good. first time ever.
-i still run almost everyday, but i am sadly not doing the half marathon. it filled up extremely fast, and the procrastinator in me waited to long. im not too saddened by it. im not sure my lungs could have handled 12.4 miles yet. im shooting for next year.
-i got to catch up with some old friends a couple weeks ago at a baby shower. it was fun to see everyone. and i got to go to my favorite bakery and eat way too many donut holes.
-my 5 year reunion is in 2 weeks. where did the time go!?
-my first test of the semester was today. the stress has begun. if you aren’t aware, i don’t handle my stress well. im a crazy emotional person. it’s slightly terrifying.
-pb cheerios are my new midnight snack of choice. yes, im that person that wakes up and is starving and must eat something. such a bad habit! but boy are those pb cheerios good.

after reading this list, my life looks so boring! i will try to spice it up so i can actually write about something interesting. :)

don't watch if you don't appreciate freedom

so, today i become political on my blog. usually i hate politics, and think that they’re a bad conversation piece. however, i am so happy that today obama affirmed his views on same sex marriage. i have friends and i have family members that are gay. who am i to say that they shouldn’t be allowed to marry the person they truly love, the person that they want to have a family with. people who say its against religion just stun me. aren’t we all equal? don’t we all get to live happily? i thought jesus loved everyone?
the celebrity seth rogan had an amazing quote today… “claiming that someone else’s marriage is against your religion is like being angry at someone for eating a donut because you’re on a diet”
lucky for me i was born straight, i get to live peacefully and marry the person i love and have a family with them. but not so lucky for others who don’t get that freedom.
news flash: you live in america, there is more than one religion in this country, we aren’t called the melting pot for no reason. there are so many different backgrounds in this country, not everyone is going to agree on everything. but who am i to say you are not allowed to be with the ONE person you truly care about? i think that’s simply absurd. if we get to vote on if same sex couples can marry, than why shouldn’t they be allowed to vote if different sex couples should marry? homosexuals can fight for your freedom but they can’t marry someone they love with all their heart?
it’s 2012 people. open your eyes.

one more final until 9 days away from the campus. i am so ready for my summer break, which is really just one week, and i will be spending the majority of it at work. and yes, that top left flash card says “wear condom.” that is what you do if you have recurrent herpes simplex genitalis. and no, the questions aren’t all that easy. my hunger games.

i saw a 21 day no junk food challenge on pinterest and showed it to my dear friend alyssa. bad idea. her thoughts? “let’s do it!”, my thoughts? “this isnt going to go well.”

if you know me, i am a huge junk food fan. i could eat chips and cookies for every meal and be satisfied.

the challenge is 21 days and consists of not eating any:
-chocolate
-candy
-cake, donuts, or any pastries
-white bread
-chips
-fast food
-peanut butter or any other yummy spread
-ice cream

sure that doesn’t sound too hard for a few days, but 21!? i work in a hospital that has a mcdonalds. i work in an office that has at least 3 candy bowls and someone brings cinnamon rolls or bagels at least once a week!

i am interested to see how i feel when this is all done. maybe i won’t be a junk food junkie anymore! (doubt that)

this ends may 10, so in the meantime you may want to keep your distance. i dont function well without chocolate.

memo to self…

don’t take three days off from training. actually, don’t take anymore than one day off.

this morning while running after taking three days off, i got passed by a lady with a stroller. a lady with a stroller, that had a child in it!

she managed to get herself, a child, and a stroller up that hill faster than i could my get myself up that hill.

if that’s not motivation i don’t know what is.
